Agreement to terms

By accessing or using the Carpentry Courses website and services (“Services”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

If you are using the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization and that it accepts these Terms.

You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Services. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Using our site

You agree to use this site lawfully and respectfully. Do not disrupt services or infringe on others’ rights.

  • No unauthorized access, probing, or scanning of systems or networks.
  • No distribution of malware, spam, or content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, or infringing.
  • No attempts to bypass payment, license, or access controls.
  • No scraping or automated data collection except as permitted by robots.txt or explicit written consent.
  • No activities that could damage, disable, or impair the Services.

Accounts and access

Keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activities under your account. We may suspend access for violations.

  • Provide accurate registration information and keep it updated.
  • Notify us promptly of any suspected unauthorized access or security breach.
  • Account access is personal and non-transferable unless expressly allowed in writing.
  • We may suspend or terminate access for suspected fraud, abuse, or violation of these Terms.

Payments

Prices are listed in USD. Taxes may apply. Unless stated otherwise, all sales are final after course access is granted.

  • Payment methods may include major cards and other methods shown at checkout.
  • By submitting a payment, you authorize us and our payment processors to charge your payment method for the total amount, including taxes.
  • Chargebacks or disputes initiated without first contacting support may lead to account suspension.
  • Where mandatory law provides a cooling-off period or refund rights, those rights will be honored.

License and content

Course materials are for personal learning. Do not copy, redistribute, or resell without permission.

  • We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access purchased materials for your personal, non-commercial use.
  • All materials, including videos, text, downloads, designs, and branding, are protected by intellectual property laws.
  • You may not record, rebroadcast, share, or publish course materials without prior written consent.
  • If you submit feedback or testimonials, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display that content for service improvement and marketing.

Service availability and changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services, including course availability or features, at any time with or without notice to maintain quality, comply with law, or address technical issues.

Safety and professional responsibility

We provide educational content as-is. Practice safely and follow all safety guidance. We are not liable for misuse.

  • Always wear appropriate protective equipment and follow tool manufacturer instructions.
  • Consult a qualified professional where required by law, codes, or safety standards.
  • You are solely responsible for your projects, workplaces, and compliance with applicable regulations.

Privacy

We collect and process personal data to operate the Services, provide support, process payments, prevent fraud, and improve content. We apply reasonable safeguards to protect your data and respect your privacy choices as required by applicable law.

Third‑party services

The Services may interoperate with third-party tools (e.g., payment processors, video hosts). We do not control third-party content or policies and are not responsible for their acts or omissions. Your use of third-party services is subject to their terms.

Prohibited conduct

  • Reverse engineering or decompiling the Services except where permitted by law.
  • Impersonating others or misrepresenting affiliation.
  • Uploading content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other rights.
  • Circumventing technological measures protecting course content.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access immediately for any violation of these Terms, suspected fraud or abuse, legal requirements, or security risks. Upon termination, your license to the content ends, except as required by law.

Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON‑INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that the Services will be uninterrupted, error‑free, secure, or that defects will be corrected, or that results will meet your requirements.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES.

Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the specific course giving rise to the claim in the 12 months preceding the event, or (b) USD $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you to the extent prohibited by law.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless us and our officers, employees, and contractors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Services, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any third‑party right.

Export and compliance

You must comply with all applicable export control and sanctions laws. You may not use the Services if you are subject to sanctions or in prohibited jurisdictions under applicable law.

Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict of laws principles. The exclusive venue for disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services will be state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Severability; waiver; assignment

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

Entire agreement; survival

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Services and supersede prior agreements. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, indemnification, and limitations of liability) will survive.
